Glen Manor Vineyards is located in Virginia approximately 70 miles west of Washington D.C., situated on a western flank of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The surrounding mountains, ranging between 1400 and 3400 feet in elevation, form a “Glen” which gives the vineyards a unique environment: A world of its own. The vines grow high on very steep mountain slopes characterized by deep, well-draining, and rocky soils.
In 1981, as a young winemaker, I took a job in Virginia. The vision of unlimited possibilities and a few good wines eventually lured me to set my roots on an abandoned hardscrabble farm on the top of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Much has changed since those early pioneer days, but the excitement of winegrowing in an evolving region stays just as strong. Over the years I have joined in partnership with other like-minded winegrowers. Our job is to express the forces of earth, weather and vine in the bottle. All the grapes used to make Linden wines are grown in the mountains and valleys surrounding the winery. As winegrowers we are primarily interested in how each vineyard site is expressed in the glass. Place is more important than grape variety. Our white wines have subtle minerality, verve and vibrant acidity. Our red wines show earth, depth and structure. Our wines age quite well and we often release them many years past vintage.
Discover our wines amidst majestic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains from our chalet-style winery & vineyards, tucked away in a mountain-side retreat in Virginia Wine Country. We are open year round, so come visit us for a wine tasting or one of our many events.

Welcome to Valley View Farm, home of the Swedenburg Estate Vineyard. Juanita and Wayne Swedenburg dreamt of living where they could enjoy themselves while also working the land in order to make their home financially self-sufficient. Their careers had taken them around the world several times, so they considered a coffee plantation in Kenya, a cattle ranch in Costa Rica, as well as a bed and breakfast in the Cayman Islands (that would have been sweet!). Fortunately, they found the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Northern Virginia and the quaint town of Middleburg. Being Mid-West farmers from birth, the Swedenburg family researched properties across the region looking for the right mix of good pastures, easy road access, fertile soils, and plenty of water. Their search ended at Valley View Farm which has been in continuous agriculture for the past 200+ years.
